The Recruitment Process

NRG supports Durham University in recruiting the right candidates for permanent administrative posts, grades 1 to 5, at both Durham City Campus and Queens Campus, Stockton. If you have good administration or secretarial skills, experience and commitment you can apply directly via this website. You will then be invited to attend a preliminary interview and skills evaluation appropriate to the roles that are of interest to you.

Attend one of our regular Open day events where you will be able to discuss working for the University and apply for vacancies that are available now or are likely to be in the near future. An experienced recruitment adviser will discuss the role requirements, the selection process and if appropriate book you to an interview and skills evaluation date and time.

What is the Selection Process?

All applications will be assessed against the required skills shown on the job description and person specification attached to each vacancy. Firstly, upon receipt of your CV one of our recruitment advisers will contact you to discuss your application and the role you wish to apply for.

Secondly you will be invited to attend an interview and to complete computer based skill assessments that are relevant to the essential criteria required to enable you to carry out the role.

Skill tests may include:

  • Basic key board skills, accuracy and speed
  • Windows
  • Excel
  • Powerpoint

The interviewer will question you on your relevant experience and suitability for the role.

The interview is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and find out more about working for Durham University. Remember, the interview is a two way process to help you and the interviewer to decide if this is the right job for you.

You will be advised of the outcome of your skill tests and interview. Should there be areas highlighted in your skill tests that need upgrading, we will offer you the opportunity to complete a short computerised training session and then to re-sit the test.

The final stage will be selection to a short list interview with the vacancy holder at Durham University. Before attending this final interview stage we will brief you on how to prepare and what to expect.

Following the completion of final short list interviews we will advise you of the outcome within 3 working days.
